How to put lock screen and pattern or pasword

Hi, I love lock screen and I want a password or something of security but when I try to put a pattern or a password my lock screen disappears and only works the homescreen. How can I do to able the lock screen? Just with Swipe mode???

If you add a pattern, pin, password lock, the swipe screen will be gone.

Yes I like the Lock screen too with quick access to Camera or Music.  Shame it's not available when a Password or PIN is enabled.

However, I have found that, whilst the screen is locked and you press & hold the camera button, the phone will allow you to take a photo! Cool feature!
