Open all the port covers and let it air dry. You can also place the phone in a bowl of rice or other absorbent material to draw out the moisture. But whatever you do you should not apply heat such as trying to dry it with a hairdry or other heat source as it could damage the phone.

What kind of awful advice is that? You don't have to do anything other than wiping it with a cloth and wait for the speakers to dry on their own because they sound muffled just out of water.

@MarkMRL The advice wasn't awful. After submerging the device, if there is no problem, you can safely use the device onwards after cleaning the screen. If some problems show up, like condensation beneath camera lens, you can open the flaps and let the device dry up in a warm place or put it in a bowl of rice for 1 day.

If you get condensation behind the camera or any problem other than muffled speaker your phone took water in and is defective so a better advice is to back everything up and get the phone to a service center ASAP. If you want to try and salvage a phone that took water in then the rice advice is good.

For wiping the phone off after it's gotten wet, I use a microfiber cloth designed for cleaning eyeglasses.

If the phone has become wet with non-fresh water, such as pool water, rinse it off in lukewarm water under the tap before wiping it off.

Then let it sit for a pair of hours with the screen facing up to let the water evaporate from the speaker/microphone grilles.
