Hello everyone. In this sonymobile blog post http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2014/10/01/xperia-details-hi-res-audio/ it says Xperia Z2 was compatible with Hi-Res Audio but you needed a converter to listen to it.
Sorry if it is a noobish question but can someone explain what this converter means and what do I actually need to listen to hi-res audio on Z2 as the blog post actually suggests it's possible?
Normally the maximum output for a music file on android is a flac-file with 44.1khz/16bit.
The Z2 is able play higher flac files with higher sampling rate and frequencies, i.e. a 96khz/24bit file that you can purchase off of various sites, such as mora.jp etc.
However, to fully utilize this, you need to plug an external USB DAC between your phone and the headphones.
I couldn't find a good English site, so here's one in Japanese. You can google translate it, or just look at the pictures, it's pretty self-explainatory.

The Z3 can play ALAC, DSD and other Hi-Res formats as well, while the Z2 is confined to FLAC.
