I'm trying to update my Arc S to ICS. Connect the phone to my Mac and Sony Bridge starts. Finds the phone and says there is a new update available (to ICS 4.0).
I go through all of the prompts and start the update. The system logs on to the Update Engine and then brings up the dreaded spinner underneath which it says "initializing" - at the same time, below the progress bar, it says "Talking to Update Engine".
Then the spinner just spins and spins and spins and spins! I've tried updating to ICS any number of times and get the same result. It never gets past "initializing". I left the phone while it was "initializing" for 45 minutes and came back to the same dam spinner and the word "initializing".
What the H_ll is goiing on?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
is your SI number on the list? PCC and Bridge are having issues, if you have 4.0.3 then turn on your wifi and update OTA it's only 20MB

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a "list" of devices for which the update has been released.
Next time I'll wait to buy a phone that has the current software installed - most likely not a Sony. Talk about a slow release!
Thanks again.
I agree but samsung it not any faster
if you can't wait to get it then

Unfortunately, I still have not been able to upgrade to ICS. My SI number is on the list, but when I try to upgrade, it "talks" to the Upgrade Engine - once it even downloaded something, then says it is talking with the "Upgrade Engine" and hangs there - left it for a couple of hours and the spinning ball of death was still spinning. When I go to Software Update on the phone it says I have the latest software version.
A manual update isn't feasible since it appears all of those are only tailored to PC users.
Started a chat session with Sony Support and their answer was it was a problem with my computer - "try another computer". That is BS. I don't have another computer to try.
Today I received this e-mail reply from Sony Support after three days -

Dear Andy,
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia™ Online Support.
My sincere apologies for the delay on this response.Regarding your inquiry, we're sorry for your inconvenience, but you'll need to try a different computer to perform the software update or you can visit your local Rogers service provider center to have your phone sent in for evaluation to have it update, if you do not have access to a different computer. We're sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but since we do not manufacture your Mac computer, we do not know what type of customization your computer may have to not be able to proceed with the update.

Since I live in the US, contacting my local Rogers "Service Provider" is not feasible. Also, my Mac Pro has not been customized AT ALL, unless they consider adding additional RAM and hard drives as their pathetic excuse.
