Help with editing photos from sd card

Please could I have some help editing photos on an sd card, I am finding it very tricky. If I connect up the card via the USB the tablet finds it OK but it seems to insist that I transfer them to the photos (cloud based drive). To do this takes ages -20 mins to do just 6 - I gave up. Also, app based photo products can't access the cloud drive.  Is there a simpler way to edit USB stored pictures,  do some simple editing and post onto social? Thanks in advance!!

thanks - will this address the issues i have raised? if so how? i have already downloaded a highly rated app but it didnt help. Just for clarity i have a sony experia z4 wifi tablet (not phone) so i am trying to work on pictures that i have taken on my camera which uses a maxi SD card. I use a converter. my hunch is the tablet does not cope with this type of activity  at all well

Just to clarify, does your tablet detect the SD card? are you allowed to open the pictures?

With the Z5 series its a bit different, I'm not sure if its similar with the Z4 tablet

The Z5 will not detect a USB device automatically when you plug it in. You need to go to Settings -> Device connection -> USB Connectivity -> Detect USB device.

It will also detect USB devices during boot so in case the touch is not working you can plug a mouse in, turn the phone off and then on again.
