Help please - ghost sms problem

Hello

I've got a ghost text message in my inbox. It has a space in the inbox but when I select it it just goes shadowy. It will not delete, even by marking it, alone or with other messages. My main screen constantly displays the new message symbol in the top bar and this really bothers me. For some reason, when I have 3 other messages, my screen says 4 new messages and when i select this I am shown my three real messages and this ghost message, but instead of an envelope symbol it has a little orange circle with what appears to be a dragon tail wrapped around it. I have heard of little programs which fix your message count so I guess that would be a help but can't find one that works with sony ericsson. Also I really just want the message gone.

If anyone can offer help I would be very grateful

Give this a try,

Menu > Settings > General > Master Reset > Reset Settings.

Let me know how you get on.

You could also try this workaround. Some forum users have said it works.

Send yourself an SMS. Open it and delete it.

The "ghost" SMS will be gone.

This method does not involve doing a master reset.

or if that did not work.

Go to the settings menu --> Applications --> Manage applications --> select the "All" tab

Scroll down until you see Messaging. Select it and select Clear data

If this still did not work, you can do the master reset as Jake has suggested.

and if the master reset has not help,

Can you try to perform a software/firmwware repair using PC Companion.

Connect your phone to the PC via the USB cable

The repair option on PC Companion (Support Zone --> Update --> Repair).

Please backup your phone data and settings before proceeding.

Thank you all for the helpful responses.

I have tried various tricks like sending myself an SMS and nothing like that has worked uinfortunately.

I am hesitant to try a master reset as I really sisn't want to lose all my other messages. Having heard about this idea of a little program to fix an out-of-line mail count I thought that would be a good way of solving the issue without losing my saved data but it doesn't seem possible with a sony ericcson phone.

I guess there must be a way of backing it up before the master reset but I'm not sure how to do that.
