Help connecting via USB to Linux PC (Ubuntu)

Hi,

I need some help connecting my Xperia Tablet Z wi-fi via USB to my Linux PC (Ubuntu).

There's some help on the web for connecting other tablets but can't find specific help for the Xperia Z.

What I tried was:

Checked "mtpfs" package was installed, it was.

"lsusb" in Terminal gave:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0fce:0194 Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB

So created the file "/etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules"

and added this line:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0fce", MODE="0666"

Created the "/media/Xperia" mount point and changed ownership to my username.

Added this line to "/etc/fstab"

mtpfs  /media/Xperia  fuse  user,noauto,allow_other,umask=000  0  0

Edited "/etc/fuse.conf" and uncommented the "user_allow_other" line.

Checked that my username is in the fuse group, it was.

Rebooted the Linux PC.

The mount point appeared in the Nautilus "Places" list but when clicked it to mount the tablet I got this error:

"Could not display "/media/Xperia". Error: Error stating file '/media/Xperia': Transport endpoint is not connected. Please select another viewer and try again."

So I disconnected the USB cable and in my Xperia Tablet Z settings went to the "Xperia" entry, then to "USB Connectivity", then "USB connection mode" and set it to "Mass Storage mode (MSC)". Then tried connecting the USB cable again, but ended up with the same error message as above.

I have no clue what to try next. What I want to do is transfer files over USB as via wireless is so slow.

Please help. Thanks,

Matthew

It sounds like it could be a problem with the drivers for MTP/and or mass storage on your computer. To verify if that's the case you could try to connect the tablet to another computer just to see if it gets detected without any problems.
