cant take it back to the store as am over the time for exchanging it
please help
First of all are you on the latest firmware? This can be found on Menu>Settings>About Phone and scroll to the bottom. You want to check build no. You should be on R2BA02* (the last number doesn't matter as much). If you aren't then try doing an update via Sony Ericsson Update Service, downloadable from the support part of the this website.
What apps are you running? What have you downloaded from the market? Do you have any widgets on screen that are market based? What settings do you use for data/wifi/bluetooth?
It is odd that its happening with a second battery. That indicates its more to do with something running on the phone that isn't letting it sleep when the screen is off. Most people now get over 24 hrs with a battery even with pretty good usage of apps.
Let us know what you have on the above and then lets see if we can think of anything that might help.
Frankie...
I've managed to squeeze 2 days and 6 hours out of my battery...admittedly with low usage.. a few calls one overnight backup and reading about a dozen or so emails n maybe a few web searches.
but my point is this.
the phone's biggest drain is the screen and the cpu.
did you know that the cpu is buzzing at full speed even with the screen off !!
by upgrading your phone to the new build as Suze says and by gaining root access to your phone, you can install an application called setcpu which needs the root access to work.
This lets you set the cpu to a crawl of 245MHz when the screen is off, which vastly increases your standby time.
The reason I know this is because by installing the setCPU app when the phone is not 'rooted' , you can see the cpu speed in read only mode and confirm for yourself that it always runs at full speed.
Other things you can do which are less....drastic but have a lesser effect is.
make the screen turn off fairly quickly after you have left it alone, as screens are high battery drains.
Also, install a widget called quick setrings that allows you to turn off the bluetooth and wifi and gps if they are left on.
make sure your apps that use these are setup to turn them back off again when you finish.
you can install an app called task killer that you can set to stop programs after you leave your phone alone for a while , but this may save you more memory than battery..
oh..yea install a widget called antennawidget or similar, it shows you the exact signal strength of the phone in dB and anything below -111 is call dropping bad and the phone uses up extra battery trying to find a better
cell tower. Other apps like antenna show you a google map with a line between your phone and the tower you are connected to
that's all I have right now ..
Hi There,
I have similar issues with my battery.
My build is an R1FA014, so I tried to update it via my PC yet I get a message that I have the latest version. I then tried on the phone setting=>about phone yet I don't have a menu item software update.
any other idea?
Where abouts are you in the world? Because the updates may not be available where you are.
That said you can try an alternative route... try doing the repair option on either PC Companion or Sony Ericsson Update Service (actually if you haven't tried the update service at all try update first, the service is available to download from the support section of the SE website) The repair option will reset your phone so you will lose stuff on your phone (not SD card) so make sure you have backed up and also saved contacts to SD card. This has for other users forced the newest firmware onto the phone when they were being told that they were up to date. I haven't tried this myself so can't make any guarantees.
There is a sticky link on XDA on update by country... have a look through and see if your location and telco is mentioned http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779091
