[GUIDE] Update Xperia SP from 4.1 to 4.3 under Windows 8.1

So, with Windows 8.1 and Xperia SP the general behaviour is that we're not supposed to be able to update our SP handset to 4.3 under this (quite old) Operating System. The ancient Sony PC Companion will start complaining for using Windows 7 and Sony Update Service will not list your Xperia SP.

Here is a simple solution that involves Sony Update Service:

1. Install Sony Update Service (SUS) from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/
2. Turn off your phone
3. Do not set compatibility mode for SUS. There is no need 
4. Start Sony Update Service and select Sony Xperia M as your device
5. Pressing the VOLUME DOWN key, connect your phone via USB cable
6. SUS will say that Update/Erase Update can be done (in case there is really update)
7. Choose Update to keep your data
8. Wait an hour for the 750MB+ update to get downloaded
9. You will need to disconnect your phone and wait for "Android Update"
10. ENJOY 4.3 on Xperia SP through Windows 8.1

I'VE TRIED IT and got my SP from 4.1 to 4.3 without losing any data, so I hope there is not good reason it will fail for you 😛

If anything goes wrong... get a Lumia and use the Sony as alarmt clock just as I do 😛

Hey, do not forget to hit KUDOS if it worked (despite Lumia ad) and SPAM SONY'S EMAIL FOR DECIDING TO DROP 4.4 UPDATE!

hey can someone help me my phone has an update (xperia sp) when i connect my phone to the computer it says "use a computer with  windows 7 or vista .. sony can you please make windows 8 compatible

But... backup your data before that And do not forget to disable/uninstall Google's spam/preinstalled junk - Hangotus, Google+, etc. Also take your time to go through Settings -> Apps -> All and disable all the ersonal trackers/leakers with F (facebook) apps.

Hmm, my solution:

I downloaded the pirate Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in an ISO, burnt a disk, got the boot disk, formated my pc with Windows 7, then I FINALLY UPDATED MY SP TO 4.3 (forced to download and use a pirate version of Windows 7 'cause Sony, unfortunatelly, don't updated the PC Companion), then I formated my PC again, comming back to Windows 8.1 x64.

Just 2 days to backup my PC, get my phone updated and reload all my own settings in my PC.
Awesome! That's hwooow! No Weekend. Just spending time to update.

Sony, please, fix that (PC Companion). You can do it.

HEY!!! I know ho to deal with. Instead of PC Companion, download Sony Update Service into your computer, even its windows 8.1. Then before starting the programme, change its compatibility to Win7 (otherwise you will not find Xperia SP in the list of phones. After changing the compatibiliity to Win 7, run the programme, choose Xperia SP and click next, then you will get your update
