i was just trying to enable GPS for my xperia sola and I noticed that GPS wont work alone.. ie we need the data connection (like wifi or phone internet) enabled for GPS to work.
Is that normall ?
Is this the same way that other android phones work ?
You can try this :
Disable wifi phone internet
Now enable GPS
Open google maps and try to find the current location.
Am in the middle of cochin city (India, kerala) and GPS should work here
yes this normal,
With Gps u also need data connection.
As far as i know, gps should work alone. But, a data connextion is needed to download maps with some applications. Google maps have some offline mode.
Gps(Global Positioning System) this only tell position only.
But for proper using of map, it will require data connection.
Gps tells u where u stand.
Gps with data connection tells u full map where u want to go.
GPS just marks the position on the map
For getting your location faster you need data traffic ( or any sort of internet connection )
Go to settings > Location services > Mark all the 3 options
First connect your mobile to wifi and use maps for sometime ( map needs be to downloaded for sometime )
Now stand under the clear sky and just turn on the GPS ( no internect connection )
Open google maps and tap on my loaction
See if it shows it ( it should )
