Does GPS work offline? If no, then does it need an internet connection from the network provider? I tried with wi-fi, but seems not working!!!! Please help if any settings needs to be done......
Thanks.
yes it requires an internet connection...
if u want to use network internet..it shud be stable and with high speed..
so that its accurate...
and if u use wifi theres nothing of gps u can use
i mean u can get ur location, home location i mean..
but as far as gps is concerned u cannot do it without network internet..
also if u wish to see the routes to a particular destination
there may be some market applications of preloaded maps...in that u dont have to use internet..
just open it and se..
but u have to search for the application..
Thanks..
hmm..
GPS does not need an internet connection.
However having an internet connection wil give a quicker position fix.
Plenty of navigation software (like N-drive) and map software (Locus) store data on the sd card, thus not needing an internet connection.
Settings: Wireless and Networks - Mobile Networks - Data enabled / disabled
Just to clarify that unlike GPS, Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) does require an internet connection to the mobile network (not wifi) bacause it uses a server to access the position of satellites a lot faster than GPS alone would achieve. It's not GPS per se that uses data, but navigation applications that use it, unless you use such apps which have offline maps, as previously mentioned.
i have told him about the offline navigation softwares like u explained
You stated that GPS does not need an internet connection.
How do I get indicated the GPS location on the screen of my xperia mini?
I activated GPS on Einstellungen/ Standort&Sicherheit/ GPS satellite as recommended in the SE manual.
Second, the SE manual indicates that google maps can be loaded and stored on the chip before travelling (I understand from PC to smartphone via cable). Could you explain that in more detail?
I just installed MapDroyd, a free Andoid Appictaion that only needs the GPS for navigation, and uses downloadable maps. There are maps for the whole world, and the application and maps are free. Works great. Not as good as Googls maps, but that needs a data connection to download the maps.
Thank you for your answer.
Could you also answer my first question: How do I get the GPS location on my screen?
