GPS issues since update

Hello Sony and other users

If updated my Neo last week from the stock firmware to 2.3.3 build 4.0.A.2.368.

After that I have issues with GPS signal (DOP). Programs like RunGPS, Google Maps and Navigon loses GPS signal exactly every 5 minutes für about 30 seconds. After that, the DOP is good again. Sometimes it helps to restart the phone, sometimes not. I've tried to find out if it depends, which programs are in the memory but nothing is really obvious.

The issue looks like this:

DOP.jpg

Yesterday I've updated to 2.3.4  4.0.2.A.0.42, but the issue is the same. I've read in another forum that sometimes an update of Googe maps could cause this problem. So I've deinstalled the last update of Goggle maps. Before that I had this issue, directly after that it was gone, but it came back although I did not install the update of googe maps again (Auto update was disabled).

Before the firmware updates I did not have this issues.

What can I do? Are there some log files, which can help? Any idea?

With this issue the GPS is not really usable. Is it possible to downgrade?

Thanks

Hi Oskar

I entered the APN manually. On the setup page of my old carrier (simyo) "supl" isn't mentioned.

I tested the settings download under settings->sony ericcson->internet settings. With this it is default, supl right away.

What I cannot understand is, that originally I had the problem although I entered supl to the APN.

Because entering "supl" does not help, I did the root access and messed up the gps.conf. Thats really strange.

That it doesn't work without a data connection is still an existing problem.

I hope there will be a solution soon.

Thanks

Hi MaRRRco I tried your settings today and it didn't work for me, i keep loosing the signal every 5 min. Can you check if you changed any other thing.

This is what i did, yesterday i changed the network settings to GSM only, GPS is enable and use of Wireless networks is also on, DATA is OFF (i do not have data plan) Then I re-started the phone before going to sleep and today I tested the GPS in my way to work and it faliled again every 5 min.

Thanks

Yes, i can confirm this

today don't work more for me

or better, probably there is a complicate combination of turn off and turn on, that i can't replicate

i tryed and had succes one time today, but then not, iven if i repeted the same sequence

a thing sure is that need to wait the first disconnesion, and then try to turn off and on wireless and gps

It is so frustrating, at the moment only flight mode work for who haven't data connection

I hope Sony can do something very soon, before the future realese software, it is a real and big bug

Hi all

I'm testing, I started GPS with Ndrive (I use It because it beeps every time it gets or lost gps signal) and it started to drop signal every 5 min. then I closed Ndrive, deleted data and cache of MAPS (google maps) and cleared a-gps data with GPS TEST and now it's working.

Can you try to replicate this to see if it works to everyone?

I'm really thinking about rooting the phone to erase Google Maps

Thanks

Hello Oskar

The last four days I tested my GPS and gave the feedback that it works now with data connection.

This is wrong! Today I tried it again and I get losses again every 5 minutes.

I did not change anything to the settings in that time. So, problem not solved.

What is the status of your internal investigations?

Can you reproduce the problem with the phones in your company?

When can we expect to get a fix?

Thanks

Bye

Try to reboot the phone and see if it works properly again.

Also with my method worked for a period, but i did some actions impossible to repeat well.

In my opinion i don't think that google maps can cause a simil problem, moreover if we use other applications like Sygic, Navigon, Copilot etc

I don't see what concern maps with gps working.

It is clear that the agps must work only for the first fix and then it have to be totally disabled not trying to receive data, this is a bug, and wait for news from Oskar is working for us.

Then I think that could be a stupid thing, probably we can resolve it changing some configurations and not waiting the new release, so we can expect some infos from Oskar.

I don't know if is possible to disable agps from gps.conf, perhaps changing or deleting some lines can help, but we need the support of someone and Oskar is here for us.

I know that also Markus has reported this issue to Sony and they are investiganting, as I said to him this is a real problem, not a false one like photo compression or others, this really need to be fixed very soon, before ICS, with a new build or the support of Oskar

Hi MaRRRco, just a question, is your phone branded?

Mine was Vodafone, a few days ago I debranded mine with wotanserver and I still had the problem with GPS. Yesterday I had a strange problem with battery and I decided to repair the software via pccompanion.

So yesterday at 17.30 I repaired the software, took off the battery and put it on again and this morning in my way to work the GPS has worked OK. I'll keep testing to see if the problem has been really solved.

Vodafone Software always tries to connect via DATA and maybe although I debranded until I did the repair I did not get rid of all Vodafone crap.

As I said I'll keep testing and let you know if it fails again, but i wanted to tell you just to know if you have tried this steps.
