GPS issues since update

Hello Sony and other users

If updated my Neo last week from the stock firmware to 2.3.3 build 4.0.A.2.368.

After that I have issues with GPS signal (DOP). Programs like RunGPS, Google Maps and Navigon loses GPS signal exactly every 5 minutes für about 30 seconds. After that, the DOP is good again. Sometimes it helps to restart the phone, sometimes not. I've tried to find out if it depends, which programs are in the memory but nothing is really obvious.

The issue looks like this:

DOP.jpg

Yesterday I've updated to 2.3.4  4.0.2.A.0.42, but the issue is the same. I've read in another forum that sometimes an update of Googe maps could cause this problem. So I've deinstalled the last update of Goggle maps. Before that I had this issue, directly after that it was gone, but it came back although I did not install the update of googe maps again (Auto update was disabled).

Before the firmware updates I did not have this issues.

What can I do? Are there some log files, which can help? Any idea?

With this issue the GPS is not really usable. Is it possible to downgrade?

Thanks

Just like to add that I have the problem when my DATA is turned off. When I switch DATA on again, I will still loose GPS again when the 5 minutes is up the first time but after that GPS seems to behave ok. But this is not a solution because I like to use my GPS without DATA.

your suggestion were great.

I didn't notice that i have any problem with the gps.

I was using navigation extensively, and i set according to what you have syggested.

just out of curiosity, go to settings -> location & security -> what do you have selected?

Use wireless networks? YES

if you have this selected, did you allowed Google to collect anonymous location data?YES

use gps satellites? YES

I could not see any disconnection with GPS on my ARC -S.

Since it works, i didnt bother to see if i set it back , will it have problem or not.

Now, its up to those who complaints to do exactly the same to feedback.

I dont see any since 29 Nov... but , i am very graetful for yoru suggestion. Thank you.

I also have the same problem with an xperia play on 2.3.4.

With data disabled, which is how I want to use the gps, I get frequent loss of signal which makes the navigation useless.

If I allow a data connection, the gps work reliably. The only way I can get a reliable gps function without data enabled is to disable internal gps and use an external gps receiver. This is not convenient but it works. After testing extensively my instinct told me that this is something to do with attempts to contact agps. But unfortunately you cannot disable this, though of course turning data off should disable it.

Me too, same problem on xperia Neo, only with 2.3.3 and 4.0 firmware and 2.3.4 with the last firmware

this not happend with 3.0xxx firmware

i have no data connection, and i don't use agps to fix

but the problem is still here

if i run Gps status i can see the signal drop costantly, it is no clear

in a moment i get 10 satellites, after that 1 only, and then again 10 in a fraction of a second

you can see the bars of level disappear and reappear immediatly

Hi JojoNeo,

I'm working with GPS at Sony Ericsson.

This is probably caused by a problem in the APN/data connection settings.
Please let me know which operator you're using and in which country.
Please also list the APN and APN type settings available in your phone.
Settings -> Wireless & network settings -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names

Example from my phone:
Country: Sweden
Operator: Telia
APN 1: online.telia.se

APN type 1: default,supl
APN 2: mms.telia.se

APN type 2: mms

I would also like to know if the data connection status icon is showing in the status bar when this happens.
(G/E/3G/H icon with arrows pointing up and down)

in flight mode no gps disconnection !!!!!! Thinking_Face

today 20km in the city with these settings:

wifi off - gms only - connection data off (i don't have a sim plane), my cell is totally out of the net

first 10 km gps drops every 5 minutes

last 10 km, same settings but flight mode ON

no more signal drops !!!

i don't know if crying or laughing
