google play uses to much mobile background data

Hi All, on my xperia neo I've got some trouble with background traffic. 2 weeks ago I installed the upgrade to Android 4.0.4 (from 2.3). After some days without trouble I've got to much mobile traffic. Most of them from Google Play Store (4.6.17). Since the phone is used by my son I wasn't sure, what he is doing with the phone. But today, I have the phone under my control and even if I did nothing then Play Store got 8 MB mobile background data! Now I found the option to disable background data. but 1 hour later google services (play and some others) downloaded 5 MB data in background too. Now the option to disable background data is set for the services. But how it will go on? Does anybody have an idea, what's the problem and how to solve it? Thanks an advance Muecke

Open Settings then Data usage and check that the Mobile data is disabled - From here you can also check to see what apps are using mobile data - You may also what to check the option for Data restriction which may help you

Thank you for your answer!

I do not want to disable the whole mobile data! Because I need mobile data traffic. Ive checked, what apps are using mobile data and I disabled mobile background data usage for that (google play and a bulk of google services). At the moment it seems, that all apps are running fine.

But: All these things are only workarounds, in my opinion! Where the mobile data usage come from? Any ideas?

Do you have Sync enabled which will often sync with your Gmail ie: contacts, calendar etc and also check the Play store for updates

No, sync is completly disabled. No google sync, not other sync.

I forgot: the playstore options ar that I will not get information about updates and I will not automatic updates for installed apps...
