Flashing light

Could someone explain to me why there is a small light (half green & half purple) blinking once every five seconds at the bottom of my Xperia L when it’s not in use?  This is my first smart mobile which I bought on the 6th of June and I just notice this when it was on my table.  I’ve had a quick look at the guide book but can’t find anything to explain this.  Any help to explain this would be appreciated.

Thank you for replying to my problem Alexdon, it wasn't the notifIcation though. I also received an email from Xperia telling me try a list things to solve the problem.  One of the suggestion was to switch the power off then back on again, which I did, and it worked!  The flashing light has now stopped.  Well I am a complete novice with technology   anyway once agian thank you for your help.
