Ok, i gave up that Sony will release the ICS for my phone, and decided to root my phone today following @uliwooly's link
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41609
Just want to make sure that when i'm rooting my phone with the original firmware that won't void the warranty and i can later install the software in the Support Center, and that i will still recieve any updates!!!!!
are u using GB or ICS ?
Nop still on GB
If you can't wait go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937792 and flash the Stock Global ICS, and then u root it with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460, and u can still get the updates
As for GB I guess you have to unlock ur bootloader 1st which voids ur warranty then flash a custom kernel, but there's a chance you won't get to install the updates in Service Center
I don't know man, i guess it's better to sell the phone as it is, maybe to someone who dont care about updates and check the new one, instead of runing my phone then won't be able to sell it!!!!!!
You can root your phone without touching he bootloader setting. You can also re-root it using the rooting tool from XDA. Therefore it should not void your warranty.
However if you want to flash a custom rom, then you need bootloader in unlocked mode. You can check your bookloader status by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* and choose Service info > Configuration > rooting status. If it is "unlock allowed" then you can flash to custom roms without touching the bootloader. Uou can flash back to your original ROM and your waranty won't be voided as well. However if the rooting status is unlock not allowed", then you need to unlock your bootloader before flashing custom roms. And you will void your warranty by doing so. Unless it is a confirmed hardware problem, Sony won't be responsible for repair a unlocked device.
hello i checked as u told n see my sola status : unlock bootloader allow = yes
that mean i can root my sola without unlock my bootloader ? pls tell me a detail how to root my sola, am on Gb now.
Thank you for your helpful answer really, i checked the status of my phone, and it's unlock allowed, anyway i don't need a custom rom i need the original one, so i guess i'm gonna go for it.
Thank you!
Just need to make sure about something coz i'm not totaly sure what to do, if i'm on GB now, should i flash my phone with the flashtool, or there's something i need to do about the bootloader first?
I missed the point that you are on GB. For GB, there is no way to root without unlocking the bookloader.
