File Manager (Sony PC Companion) crashes under Windows 8 while copying a video file

I've been trying to fix this on my end but it seems that I cannot "bypass" Sony's companion file manager.

When I copy a .mkv file (It's just for storage, not for playing the video itself) it crashes my entire explorer.exe process, so, I do lost all of my Explorer windows and it's really annoying.

PD: Sorry wrong section, I'd love if a manager can move it to the correct section!

There you go moved it for you.

However regarding the problem at hand, have you tried simply dragging and dropping the files by accessing the phone as a drive through "My Computer" instead of using PC Companion?

Hi Sam,

That's exactly what I am doing, when you copy&paste or just drag an item into the internal Xperia ZL memory it just crashes explorer.exe, then my desktop restarts with no windows opened.
I said "PC Companion" because it seems that's a driver that comes with the phone and gets installed automatically. I tried using the Media Go app but is way too slow because it converts it.

I am using Windows 8 Pro x64 with a Xperia ZL.

Ok I have had a bit of a dig around regarding this issue and it looks to be a bit of an issue specific to copying .mkv files to anything running Android. However I did find a post (a bit technical) where someone managed to sort it. It looks to be worth a try if you are comfortable performing this level of customisation on your PC:

Hi, i've found a workaround that is just simply change the extension of the file that crashes the transfer before copying into the phone and then change it back to the original once is complete, it's not a fancy way to do this.

Also, i've noticed that it "tries" to recognize the format in order to give advices for transcoding/converting, so, there may be a problem recognizing some codecs or something similar. This only affects video transfer.

Indeed, I came across that work around as well but it may be worth trying the other option above as this seems to be more permanent.
