Feedback: Lollipop on Z3 / Z3 Compact

Hi there,

i would be great if ther we're a central discussion / feedback thread for Lollipop on our lovely Z3 / Z3C!

XDA Thread: Lollipop Is Rolling Out, What's Your Impression? List Bugs Here

Here are some points i noticed:

- No Access to Settings for toggles directly via Quick Setings (only WLAN/Bluetooth) as before.

- No cleaning all apps with single button in last apps.

- No option to deny WLAN AP to connect, if they dont serve internet on Z3C (it seems the Z3 on 4.4 have it)

Success.

If you too want shot of Lollipop . This is what to do...

Firstly don't forget to backup your contacts and SMSs before you start.

Sony don't make old versions of software available. But I found firmware here:

http://tinyurl.com/k4ofbaq

And here:

http://tinyurl.com/n4guyx4

This is the same file available from two independant sources. I've downloaded both versions and run a file compare. I can confirm that this is the same software. But I can't confirm that it's not been fiddled with in a malicious way.

Instructions  on flashing are here:

http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/06/01/debrand-your-xperia-z2-tutorial/

Yes, the instructions are not for the Z3 / Z3 Compact, but that doesn't matter. Ignore the link to the firmware in step 2 and download the firmware above instead.

Since getting the Flashtool itself was a pain, here's a direct link to the code:

http://download6.userscloud.com/d/xalx6trit52fvxijwls4vbcubmxhip4q6k7mjvx5rglnlzkmbi2dsizn/flashtool-0.9.18.5-windows.exe

I've lost pretty much all my setup and downloaded Apps. Never, ever again!

Which brings me to how to stop this happening again. As soon as the phone was rebooted, it started downloading new firmware....

Go to notifications and cancel the download.

Now touch and hold the notification until "App Info" appears. It should be Xperia Updater. Without Root Access you can't disable this app. Boo, hiss Sony, why not?

So I hit 'Force stop' & disable notifications.

I sincerely hope that helps.

Alexdon,

You edited my post to delete a flippant comment, I'm not sure you understood the reference...

It was a reference to the fictional detective Kojak, played by the late & great Telly Savallas. He had a catch phrase, and was renowned for always having a lollipop in his mouth. I quoted the catchphase, due to the Lollipop link and observed that my answer would be "I don't".

Not sure it was worth editing out, but hey.

@DeGraaff

"Can no longer long press a quick toggle to enter the respective settings menu."

Your right but if you tap the text below the icon you do get to the menu

We want official response from Sony. We are the job for Sony. If we stop buy Sony products Sony can't will work again. So Sony must relase a response about this topic.

This is definitely lesson learned... I did recent update without looking into what it was first... I regretted it from minutes phone restarted I realised seconds to late it was major update.
Elements I don't like:
- I don't need multiple users... This is my phone only I use it. If was to let friend or family member use it to make call I be there they don't need their on profile.
- I really don't like whole look but I will get more specific
- The whole idea of has to be a block colour theme currently got purple but fir reasons known to it self it highlights text on her background with black font in a disgusting lime green...
- I see no need for over simplified settings
- New lock screen, I lock my phone for it to go in bag or pocket I don't need ability to take pictures...
- My messages I liked how previously were set now mixture of purple... And white.
I didn't want themes on my phone it was something did in in teenage years, I currently been forced to have phone a teenage girl be proud of...

I am struggling to find anything I like about upgrade... Wish could downgrade as was happy with previous android and didn't appreciate the look and transparency of it all till it gone.

iI have found a way to resolve the issues with active sync and the lock screen. Go into Security and then Device Administrators. Uncheck email and you will be asked to confirm that you want to de-activate the email - please note that this will remove the account for your device.

This will take a while if you have a lot of email as I did. Once the email account has been removed (if it doesn't automatically, then remove it anyway), re add the account and this should resolve your issue.

I have a really annoying issue with lollipop on the Z3 (to be more factual, I have a lot of annoying issues with lollipop, but I've not seen this particular issue reported yet).

At night I place the phone in the Sony dock and launch the alarm clock. I then use the "Desk Clock" option and use the phone as an alarm. The issue I have is that when the alarm goes off, I do not get the snooze button or the slide bar to turn off the alarm - but I do get a notification. I have to tap on the notification and fiddle to turn off the alarm. If you miss the notification it is quite difficult to stop the alarm. At 5am, and half asleep, fiddling with notifications is a pain, and by the time the alarm has been silenced it's too late as its woken up the entire house....

Does anybody know of a way to resolve this? (I'm assuming it is because the phone is locked?).
