error message 'Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly'

I keep getting the following error message 'Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly'. Due to this sync issue, face book is not syncing and i have been unable to set-up my exchange email on my phone. I've seen a few people have the same issue but I haven't found a solution to it yet. P

Please help.

I should have noted, I am experiencing this problem on my experia arc phone.
