Elm - Tracker and Keypad

Hi all.. newbie here, just bought an Elm and trying to work my way around it. Main issue that I have run into is with using the tracker application, I bought the phone so I could use this instead of buying one of the Garmin devices - so i can use it as the app is meant for, when I'm out training to log time & speed etc. I've got the tracker working aok (still can't decide if it uses any data allowance or anything else chargeable though, hmm) but one major problem, I can't work out how to lock the keypad when it's going so that I don't reset it/pause it accidentally when it's in my pocket! Apols if this is a bit of a basic question, no doubt the aswer is obvious but I can't figure it!

Also, what happens if I'm in mid-tracker session/run and someone phones or texts me, does it get reset (hope not)?

Many thanks

Hi Tim, to clarify, yes as it is using assisted GPS there is data being used when you make use of this function. To lock the keypad simply either hold down the * button, this will lock the keys and put the phone into standby. There should not be any interruption when accepting other communications with the phone.

Thanks for the info- does anyone know approximately how much data/hr the a-gps uses?

As for locking the keypad while tracker is running, I just tried holding down * but that didn't do anything at all. Are there any other things that I could try?

The data used is not generally a huge amount, though this depend on what application you are using as some applications may download maps etc.

Sorry about the locking key instruction, I was hoping that was the case as it will work in many cases for certain applications however it appears not for this one. Based on what I can see here is appears that the application meant to be live constantly and thereby does not have a directly locking method that I am aware of. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Oh dear, it's hard to believe they've built something like a tracker facility for using during active sports then haven't enabled a keypad lock!  However do people use this?

Is this worth investigating further or should I just take it back & get a Motorola or something instead?

Just a thought, you could simply hit the power button once to put the handset into standby as this would then lock the keypad.

Thanks for the reply. Er, which one is the power button? Do you mean the red one that doubles up as call disconnect? If so, just tried that but no luck either. Just an idea, can one assign extra functions to keys in one’s profile etc. ?

I still can’t believe that I’m not missing something obvious here…

Unfortunately you are not missing something obvious. So what happens when you tap the red button? (this is the power button).

Hi, if  tracker is running and I press the red call disconnect button, I just get the menu with 2 options, either “end application” or “minimise”. Maybe there’s a hack that could enable me to customise this to add a 3rd option of “leave maximised and lock keypad”?!

I will certainly pass that on, however in the mean time it appears you would need to minimise the application then lock the keypad.
