Can you please see if you have the diagnostics test option on your phone? You can usually find it under Settings > About Phone > Diagnostics.
If you do have it, please test the ear speaker.

Hmm, it would seem like a hardware fault. You can try a software repair if you like to be sure it's nothing related to software, but I think it's best if you contact your local support team to arrange a repair.

SONY HAS NO INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT for their phones?! Are you kidding me? I have to courier the phone away and pay to have a latent defect fixed on this 2 day old phone.
Please tell me you can offer me a better solution here Sony.
