EAP SIM authentication problem

EAP SIM authentication problem

Hello,

I'm trying to make EAP SIM work; I've got to connect to a WiFi that has only this kind of authentication (I do not want to provide details, but just say it's a French Mobile Provider...).

Anyway, after correctly setting the phone (double checked) and trying to connect to the secured network it stops trying with 'Authentication problem'.

I've connected the phone to Eclipse with DEBUG in adb, and in logs it reports 'Failed to retrieve IMSI from SIM', but I'm sure SIM it's ok as I can retrieve IMSI from it with a home made Android App, simply asking Android for the IMSI.

Please Sony Developers help me, further details of logging can be provided,

Sony Xperia U ST25i

Android ICS 4.0.4

build 6.1.1.B.1.10

Our handsets simply do not support the EAP protocol sorry.

Hello,

thanks for the information, I was sure it was, cause in the page of the provider it's stated that it support also EAPSIM (if you need the link I'll send it to you privately).

Anyway do you know if it is a software problem or a hardware one? I don't know deeply EAP SIM but if it is a software problem I hope that future releases will solve it. In my case I have to choose another phone just for this... or maybe an alternative software solution can be found.

Thanks again,

I saw once (I dont remember where) that depending on your plan, the EAP-SIM is activated or not, ie:

- 2€ plan: eap-sim not activated (I can confirm this one not working)

- 20€ plan: eap-sim activated

moreover, samuel stated that "Our 2012-phones does support the EAP-SIM security option" in

http://sony-ericsson.hosted.jivesoftware.com/message/306796#306796

and the white paper specification from http://www.sonymobile.com/fr/products/phones/xperia-u/specifications/ state (in WiFI section, page 10) that EAP-SIM is supported.

You are perfecly right; there are two plans (we've got who's the operator :smileywink:) and I have the second one with eap-sim activated. I am sure of this.

Moreover the problem is stated by the phone, unable to retrieve IMSI is before any error message from authenticating server.

I did not find the specification before, thanks shad for pointing it out. So I think now that it is a problem with ICS update, but would like to have someone with older version to confirm.

If so, a software patch is needed. As said, I can provide more debugging details, I think I've pointed out the part of the kernel source causing this problem. Anyone can help?

Tnx,

hope it helps
