downloaded apps not appearing after shutdown

I shutted down my xperia l for a moment and when I powered it on I could not find any of my apps neither on the home screen nor on the menu... So I went to settings>apps I found that all my apps were there but I couldn't find a way to restore them...
Please help
Its not even a month until I bought my phone

Thankyou for your answer.. glad to receive one.. Well I found a way out. it was due to safe mode which got activated When I shut it down.. It was sorted out when I again restarted my mobile. Happy to get my apps back. Thanks again
