Download problem - download cannot be stopped

When I receive an email with attachment, my sony Z3 will automaically download the attachment in the background but the download cannot be stopped.  It keep running at the background which then ends up in using most of the memory, then other aplications are killed.  Last time I kill the download application and restart the phone twice (download resume after first restart of phone).  The problem happens again.  How can I stop the download at the background?

Dear I am having the same proble....the downloads are from my gmail....i have done everting possible ...but it is a reality...admit and fix it please....i just sold my HTC M8 dual sim thinking Sony will enhance my experince....but buggy is not appreciated

Based on volume of reports and lack of Sony response I'm hoping (like many I'm sure) that this will get fixed with Android 5.0 release next month.
