Disappointed, NFC still can't toggle GPS on even after ICS update :(

Hi Sony,

I would like to know if there is any option to toggle GPS with the xperia smart tag as advertised?

Inititally I thought it was just an GB issue, however, after updating to ICS, I am still unable to turn on the GPS as there is no GPS option in the app that came with it. I know that I would need to root my phone in order to get that, however I will risk getting my warranty void. Then what's the point of advertising that feature when I need to root my phone and risk getting my warranty void in order to get that feature I am very disappointed with the Sony false advertising, I don't get what is being"advertised"  even after an update Or is that just a gimmick?

This has now been investigated again but the answer remains the same. The option to use the NFC tag for turning ON or OFF GPS is available in phones that has the application "Smart Connect" preloaded into the phone.  But it can vary between different customizations and kits so I you're not sure if this should be working in with your kit or not I suggest that you contact your local support team.

So, ten months later and no updates on this topic?

I have a shiny new Z Ultra (with Smart Connect pre-installed). I was all excited when I bought my Smart Tags (NT3) today at my local Sony store during a "VIP" event.

So I got home and played with them for two minutes and quickly discovered that I could not enable the GPS via a Smart Tag (95% of the reason that I bought these things). 

This has been an issue for a year yet Sony still advertises this feature as being possible. I can work around this deceiving marketing but I will say I am dissapointed with Sony.

I have a brand new Xperia Z pre-loaded with Smart Connect, same thing, cannot toggle the GPS using the Smart Tags..

There are many other "usless" actions, but GPS, no..

It actually makes the whole Smart Tag concept useless for me.

One additional question: Is it possible for the phone to read a Smart Tag while it is in "Locked" mode i.e. Screen is off?

You MUST notify user about these fact(useless GPS switching) or fix these issue.
I am disappointed with Sony.

I have the same problem with my Sony Xperia Z. No GPS option which can be turn on and off via Smarttag - which was the reason why I bought this tags! Nowadays the are useless for me. Will someone from sony turn me my money back??
