Direct Stream Digital DSD / High Res Audio

Hi folks,

I would like to mention here, that you can enjoy DSD files with your Sony Z3. The Sony Z3 is the best sounding Xperia so far. It uses two TFA9890 chips which are very high quality amps and D/A converters. By using these devices it is possible to playback 24bit / 96KHz natively. It's possible to playback files with up to 24bit/192KHz sampling rate as well, but all these files will be downconverted to 24bit/96KHz.

DSD Files are supported with up to 128fs. But native DSD playback is not supported, these files will be converted to PCM 24bit/96KHz on-the-fly.

The Sony Z5 family does not have seperate D/A converters, they use the built-in Qualcomm audio facilities of the SD 810 chipset. So, at least for me, the Sony Z3 is the best sounding Xperia so far.

If you would like to try out DSD and compare it with native PCM 24bit/96KHz side by side, try out Native DSD Shop. They have a free compilation album for download, you will need a free account to access that page.
