Direct Dial Shortcut on Home Screen Can't Show Contact Photo as Icon

In my old Xperia phone, I can create Direct Dial shortcut on Home Screen. In which the icon displayed for the shortcut is the photo in the Contact. However, after I changed to the new Z2, the photo can't be displayed as icon on the Home Screen. Does anyone know the reason and whether I can display the icon as before? Thanks beforehand.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

This seems to be according to design. I'm not aware of this will change or not in the future but I will forward your feedback internally. I can suggest that you add a contact instead of a direct dial to get the contact photo. You'll find the shortcut for contact in the same menu as direct dial.

Hi, Alexander. Thanks for your reply. Actually, I have been using this feature for over 2 years in my previous Xperia phone. That's why I'm not aware that this feature is not supported in my new Z2. Do you know if this change in behaviour is caused by upgraded android version or customisation by Sony?
I have tried your suggestion and found that it requires another touch on the phone number in order to call instead of just touching the direct dial icon. So I would prefer to use the direct dial shortcut instead of the contact shortcut. It would be great if you can give me more information on the availability of the feature.
Thank you very much!

I have this problem too but only for shortcuts created about three-six months ago [or so...], probably due to one of the OS updates. Older shortcuts keep their user icon.

In my Xperia T with jellybean I could also have a direct message icon, which I guess is not available with KitKat so you have to go to messages app and then choose person and then type the message, google forgot what phone was built for giving us a lot fb, tweet and google apps and cutting on normal phone functions.

According to the http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz2/userguide/Making-calls/ you can do this with:

  • Touch and hold an empty area on the home screen
  • Choose Apps
  • Choose Shortcuts (this option has not options)
  • Scroll through and choose direct dial
  • Select the number from your addressbook

Just tried it and it works on my z2 with all updates applied.

This feature seems to be missing after updating to 5.0.2 today. There is no "shortcuts" app, and there's no "direct message" or direct dial" widgets anymore...

Anyone else try this to confirm? I accidentally deleted one I had on my homescreen for messaging my wife, now I can't add it back 😞
