device thinks headphones always connected

I have a Sony Xperia M2 and I connected headphones to the device earlier. Unfortunately now I have disconnected them there is no sound coming from the device when I get a notification. Volume is on etc as I would normally have it. Guessing the device thinks the headphones are always attached as I get sound no problem when they are connected.
Can anyone help???

Try settings-apps-all,scroll down to smart connect. Force stop and clear data. Restart.

Hasn't worked unfortunately. Seems the external speaker has gone maybe?

Can you try to remove the headset while listening to music or while in a call? Do that several times.

It could be a hardware issue. Try to Contact Sony Xperia Support.

Hi WinniethePooh, welcome to the community!

Before contacting Sony Xperia Care in your region, you could try running a software repair on your handset first. You just need access to a computer with an internet connection, if you do then download either PC Companion or Bridge for Mac. Note: a software repair will delete all user data however you can do a backup & restore the data back to the phone after the repair. To do a backup on PC Companion just click Start under Backup & Restore - the rest of the instructions should be on screen. On a Mac, just click Back up my Xperia Device on the main page of Bridge for Mac.

Running the software repair on PC Companion:
1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
2. Phone Software Update.
3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps

Running the software repair on Bridge for Mac:
1. Launch Bridge for MAC without the handset connected.
2. On the Main Window select "Xperia > Repair Xperia
Device".
3. Ensure the phone is charged and select "Ok" in the
following window.
4. Select Continue on the following page.
5. Wait until the initialising step is finished the
continue as below.
6 . Select your model of phone from the list that appears
7. Follow the connection steps that appear, ensuring that
you are holding the relevant button down before during and
after the connection phase until the update/repair begins.

I hope this resolves the issue for you, if it doesn't then follow
