Delete unwanted, pre-installed apps.

Hi,

As the subject indicates I am looking to delete some of the pre-installed applications on my Z3. I have had the phone for a while however, the frequency of the updates, the way in which Sony has pre-determined which apps I want to use is now very irritating.
I have my own apps installed, ones I trust and know and would like to remove, permanently, those I deem unrequired. Is there a way of deleting these applications, which currently are locked or am I forced into rooting the phone first, thereby probably invalidating the warranty.

Hey bro!

Just to make it short:

The pre-installed apps like Hangouts, Google Apps, Lifelog and others cannot be deleted unless you root your phone. But you can always disable them on Settings > Apps. This will uninstall all the updates (resets them to factory version) and they'll never be updated unless enabled again.

But remember you'll need some of the apps like Play Store to download and update things. First thing I did on my phone was disabling a lot of these things which I don't ever use at all. =D

Hi both and thanks for the replies.

Alexdon - thanks for the pointer, funnily enough I had a notification to my email about that thread, do you use that app yourself and if so have you had any issues with it?

Khafre - cheers for that, I had an inclination that I would need to root the phone, what a pain lol. Oh well, oh ye I looked at disabling just now and some of them don't have that option open so guess that points to one road open.

Thanks again, nice to actually find a board where you not only get replies but sensible answers.

I haven't tried debloater myself but we had a VIP member that used to recommend it, saying it doesn't require root access above LP (5.0.2). You can check for yourself and tell.

Thanks alexdon, will take a look and see what's what.

BTW I had notification that nolramlb also posted an answer but unable to see it, so thanks to nolramlb as well.

That's odd, I could disable everything I wanted. I guess some doesn't have that option because they are essential to the functionality.

I even made a test, disabled all of Sony Apps and started using Google Apps instead. Of course Music and Album are better, so later I switched back.

After you check on the app Alexdon told, please tell us what you think. Maybe I'll give it a try too. 😁
