Data usage

I am upgrading to an Xperia Z and have been told by the people at 3 that i need to go with them because they offer unlimited data usage and the other tariffs available through other providers will not be enough, even on 1 or 2gb, because the Xperia uses a lot more data when browsing - seems like sales talk to me - is this nonsense ?

I have 500mb of data and I manage with around 100mb left at the end of the month, it completely depends on how you plan to use data whilst you are away from wifi networks (I never stream video or music away from home because that tends to eat up data). As well as carrier apps available from the play store (3, my vodafone...), there is also a built in part of android (the link above) to check your data usage and set caps.
