Data transfer while it is switched off

Hi there,

I have following issue:

I have switched  data tranfer off,  after few days I realized that my phone downloaded 10kB few times per day. It was very costfull because I was in different cuntry.

How to solve that issue? I switched off data tranfer using button in settings menu, so all apps should not have interet access. Is it possible that wifi (option regarding wifi on while in different area - I do not know the nameof this option. It must be phone/system issue because I use same applications at different divice and problem does not exist.

if you turn off your data then it shouldn't allow you to download or upload anything at all

Are you sure you have disabled data?It is so easy to turn it on from quick settings,if you do not have the notification.You could disable background data for the apps that made you trouble.

Yes I am sure. I understand how my data transfer works and I know when it is switched on. I wear my phone in box, so it is not possible to turn on data transfer incidentally. I was going abroad, so at the airport I turned it off. I used only wifi connections.

Now I test and I think data transfer was caused by wifi setup. (turn on wifi in specifics areas). Is it possile? How wifi establishes phone location to turn itself on?

I am thinking to send my phone to serivice, but not sure if they recognize this.

I can see that in wifi setting there is an option called scanning always available and says something about google location.Did you have that enabled?

This option is disabled. In WIFI settings, the following are enable: Notify about wifi web, WIFI during sleep: Always and WIFI optimization. 

Maybe 3rd option in Power Management manu has similar operation to that you are talking about, and gets access to data transfer to establish location of the phone. I have found info on Polish forums that few people has similar issue and when they disable 3rd option (WIFI related to your localization) in power managemet it was solved. Why it uses data transfer while it is turned off, it is strange.

But if I enable 3rd option in power management, always scanining option is inactive anyway.

I do not think that wifi by location should make you trouble,but you can never know.Disable it and see if anything occurs again.You might want to visit a sony service,maybe they can tell you more.

Is your phone locked to a carrier/network branded? if it is, I'm wondering if the carrier/network could overwrite this to send you OTA updates or collect info

My phone does not have branded software. In data transfer statistics I have info that Operational System Android send 5kB, but my operator chareged me 5 times 10kB. It seems that something is sending data from system level and omits data transfer on/off button.

That is strange.Could you maybe stop by a sony centre,let them have a look?
