I do not think so. By rooting you gain super user access to the phone system files.
e.g you can remove, modify and add any file of script files to the phone.
For example you do not like the Let's golf game, you can delete it.
Note : If you are not sure which files to delete don't do it you may cause the phone to not work.
On the other hand unlocking the bootloader has two main disadvantages. ie once you have unlocked the bootloader, you lose the DRM(Digital Rights Management) functionality even if you later relock the bootloader.
Secondly you will not be able to perform future firmware updates unless you have relocked the bootloader first.
