cracked screen

Hi!

Anyone know how much Sony will charge to repair a Z3 with a cracked glass/digitiser ? ,My own fault, I dropped it. LCD is fine, just cracked digitser and glass.

Got told to send it to the repair centre so they can assess/quote for repair, but does anyone know how much they'd charge (roughly)?

I don't want to lose my mob for a week only to be told they'll charge lots of money to fix it whe  i get ity fixed elsewhere for cheaper and quicker!

a. if it's your fault sony won't offer an "in warranty" repair;
b. they will offer an "out of warranty" repair;
c. the difference is your fault/you pay;
d. the advantage of a sony repair is that your warranty may be reinstated;
e. the disadvantage is it will be considerably more expensive;
f. letting a third party near your phone will automatically kill the warranty with sony;
g. in fairness, the warranty with them is long gone anyway;
h. if you want the phone to be splash proof go with a reputable third party repairer;
i. if you want full dust/waterproof certification go via sony alone;
j. the variables are what you can afford and how you intend to use your phone generally;
k. assume 140.00 to 200.00 pounds for a third party;
l. assume 200.00 to 300.00 pounds for sony direct.

The digitizer and LCD are glued together.

the other alternative is to buy the LCD/Digitizer online and DIY which will void your warranty but it will be a lot cheaper, also it might not be waterproof after that.

I thought they were, too much hassle to separate so sony will quote for the whole display assembly.

I have just swiped my unlock pattern into my z3 compact and a hairline crack appeared. This is definitely no fault of my own. I mean I hardly touched it. Before today however I have noticed some strange marks in the screen. Its only 7 days old and my first Sony phone. Need help and advice please. I'll ring customer support in the morning.

Sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

I had the same thing happen to my brand new Xperia Z3. The screen cracked in my pocket for no reason at all. I sent my phone off to Sony for repair and was informed that it would cost £334 to put right!!!! Anguished_Face

Given the well known history of cracked screen problems on this phone combined with the extortionate repair cost, one can only believe that this was a premeditated strategy by Sony to rip off their customers. I dropped my iPhone 4 on wooden and concrete floors plenty of times with no noticable damage and will never buy a new Sony phone again.

In the meantime though, does anyone know where I can get a replacement screen and LCD to effect the repair myself (once I've paid the £21 to get my phone back)?
