Cracked screen on Sony Z Ultra

Hi all,

like many people have been reporting, my phone cracked in my pocket, single crack from the side travelling to fan shaped hairline crack at the bottom. I've not contacted support yet, will do so first thing tomorrow and report back with their response.

I've been a long time Sony fan and also have the Z2 (and other products) which is fabulous, but I'm now concerned about all these issues, and the price of the replacement glass is exorbitant when most other phones can be replaced for around £25 - £80 including labour .

If this doesn't get replaced under warranty, then, as a business user and company Director, all the Sony phones we use in my business will  be sold and also other Sony devices that both the company and myself own, will be also sold, and I'll never buy a Sony product again until they start to live up to their promises.

If a product is 'unfit for pupose' in the UK, you have a claim against the manufacturers. A screen advertised as waterproof and dust resitant and claims made of its toughened glass, has to live up to a those claim. Get more information from your local Trading Standards or Citizens Advice Bureaux.

That's just crazy - Also as an owner of an IT company any damages as I'm sure you are aware can be written off and claimed on your tax return as a loss - So you won't loose anything

I've had a similar problem, except 2 cracks formed from side to bottom when in my pocket (on its own with no other objects). I've sent it in but apparently this is not covered by the warranty and I have just been offered the repair for £166+ ; more than half the cost of the phone. I can get it back unrepaired - but thanks to Sony the touchscreen doesn't work when the glass is cracked, so it's a £300 paper weight.

"Waterproof** and made to last" - allegedly.

I've never had a phone break or a screen crack before with any of a multitude of other devices - I have an even greater concern that I will pay to fix the Z Ultra and it will happen again. This phone (at least my handset) is not tough, it is not hard wearing and it is not fit for purpose under the description they are given by their manufacturer.

I am a busy contractor and I bought this phone along with a SBH52 and a Sony Smartwatch 2 in a bid to make my life easier when travelling and in meetings... now I am back with my old iPhone and a Pebble and wondering if I should reinvest in a seemingly terrible investment.

If I had the time to scour the help and support for a phone number to speak to a human I would (instead of posting here) but that will have to wait until next week when I will also be contacting Trading Standards and the BBC if I must - with the number of similar stories around there must be something of interest to their tabloid journalism department.

Jamesy,

Did SONY replace this for you under warranty?
