Controlling the Xperia Z1 LEDs

Good day experts,

I recently purchased the Xperia Z1, which is an excellent phone. However, I am really struggling to personalize the notification LEDs on the phone.

All I basically want to achieve is to use the red LED to blink at a medium rate every second or two when I receive Whatsapp messages.

I have tried various apps on the Google Playstore, but all of them seem to be overwritten by some other setting the moment the screen is turned off. When the screen is on and in lock mode I can see the apps have control over the LEDs, but as soon as the screen is turned off, the red LED is flashed once (in the Whatsapp case for example) and then immediately overwritten by the white LED.

I have literally tried every setting that I can find in "Settings", but no avail, please help!!

Thanks in advance!

but remember, to make such an app actually work, you have to uninstall every single app that does the same but the one you are going to use, and before uninstalling any app that uses the phone's hardware you need to disable it in "device administrators". If you don't uncheck it first, it may leave some settings behind not restored to defaults, and this might cause many problems.

Just make sure you use one app at the time, this one is confirmed to work (runs like a charm in my Z1).

Oh, and BTW: for apps like this (Whatsapp) you need a root access. I doubt it can be done any other way (I couldn't find one so far). So perhaps if you need only this one work with notifications.. well, you will have to wait for root to be safe on Z1, because now it will break the camera functionality. Perhaps someone found already an app that works with Whatsapp without the root, I didn't yet.
