Contacts Birthday

Hi

I will buy a new mobile phone. Last week I could interact a bit with the xperia s. I can say it's quite a great phone.

The biggest disadvantage is the contact administration. Why it is no possible to add the birthday of a person to a contact? This is surely a property of the contact and not elsewhere (e.g. calendar, ...).

Then we tried to sync the google birthday calendar with the xperia calendar. It worked not really. Just one contact birthday (added on gmail contact) was synced with the xperia calendar.

This is for me (and also other person in the web) a point not to choose a sony phone. That is very unfortunate, because sony has some good phones.

Hope sony will pick up this point on the feature list with a high priority.

Edit: Other phones like htc or samsung supports the field (property) birthday, even my quite old htc desire.

Is there currently a workaround for this problem?

friendly greetings

If you sync all your contacts with google then you can add their dates of birth when logged in to your account on a pc for example.  They should then appear on your calendar if you have also selected the Contacts Birthdays and Special Events calendar both online and also ensure that it is selected on your phone.

I also use a birthday app to sync with my contacts and also with Facebook which has a widget and reminders so I have no excuse not to remember a birthday now!

Hope it helps a bit.

Thank you for your fast answer.

We did the same, after we saw, that the phone not supports the birthday property (field). We added all contacts to the google gmail contacts. After that, we added the birthdays on the gmail contacts.

Now in the google calendar the birthdays are not shown. This is correctly. For this reason google has the google birthday calendar. There are all birthday correctly shown.

After this, we tried to sync the "normal" google calendar with the xperia s. It worked fine.

Now we tried to syn the google birthday calendar with the xperia s. One birthday was synchronized, but all others (more than 100) were not synchronized. Is think there is a bug in the xperia s or in the google birthday calendar sync. All google calendar were selected on the phone. Is this a known issue?

Hmmmm, I don't have one of the 2012 phones (yet!)  to check it out on to see if I can reproduce the same issue.  I wonder if it would be worth downloading a calendar app from the Android Market/Play Store to see if the Birthdays calendar works correctly on that.  I have used Jorte for a few years and quite like it but have recently moved to Calengoo (which is a paid app) as google has another bug where it doesn't sync your historical appointments beyond 60-90 days and Calengoo has a work around for this.

There does seem to be various bugs lurking around with the calendar, I guess some are with Sony and others are with Google.  Like many things, its whether you can find a working solution that suits you.

Hope my answers have helped with a few ideas even if they haven't resolved the problem in itself.

Thank you for your answer. I will try this next weekend.

But I would be glad, if a sony supporter could transmit the missing contact field as an important feauture point.

I would als be glad to see sony woud fix the missing birthday field to the contact GUI.

Its very bad that we have to use 3rd party apps like EboBirthday to see/edit correctly synced contact data with birthday.

Why other smartphones with ICS got this simple feature by default?

I would like to know the very good reason this field was removed by sony.

Is this maybe the reason people flash their phone with 3rd party firmware....

Any sopperter can comment this please?

Thanks

Thyson

All other Android manufacturer have birthdays in contacts. Also SE had this with their old feature phones.

Now with ICS there is a field for birthday. Contacts-add field-happenings. I hope the translation is right.

Hello dear...

One week before I bought Xperia U and faced the same problem with adding Birthday field.

I got a solution to it too. Here it is...

Install the "Contact Editor Free" app available on Play Store.

Now, whenever you try to edit / add a contact, it will ask you to choose the editor.

Choose Edit Contact App Button to edit detailed information including Birthday / Anniversary.

Happy Googling....!!
