Connection to PC problem

I want to backup up my phone as I intend to reset it since it's become very slow and I cannot afford a new phone.

When I plug it into my PC, it startes charging but it is not recognized at all. I have tried different cables.

What should I do?

Install PC Companion and try again, the installation contains drivers for Xperia phones.
