Computer does not recognize Xperia S

Since the official support from Sony takes years to send an answer I will try my luck here:

I'm using Windows Vista and I dont know why but my computer does not recognize my Xperia S anymore. Firstly it worked well PC companion tells me that the device could not be connected and I that shall restart my cell phone and conect it again. I tried that but it didn't help.

I would appreciate any kind of help.

Hmmm so problem is with the PC...

MSC mode unfortunately has been removed from 2012 Xperias, sadly seems there is no way to do it..

it should work with every vista.. there is something that is interfering on your pc

You should allow full access to PC companion in firewall's list of exception

even do the same in antivirus

I did everything said here including deactivating antivirus and firewall. I even killed some processes on the background (like spybot) and still it doesnt work...

Thanks for the help mate. I will try that...

By the way the problem is now appearing on 3 PCs. So something seems to be definetly wrong with the Xperia S while conecting to computers.

Its a Microsoft issue as far as I can work out. If you google mtp error all sorts of devices suffer from the same problem. Other android devices, iPhones, cameras and mp3 players. I think having a lot of content on the the device causes the drivers to crash whilst loading. Im no expert im just reading info available online.

The tip with "Settings > applications > all > MTP app > clear data" helped a bit thanks. But now the problem is that the device is recognized by Windows/PC Companion, but no files are show on the deivce. If you go to windows explorer you can see the device but when you click on it no files or folders are showed.

It would be really nice it a simple USB connection could be available in addition to MTP. Maybe you could forward this wish to the xperia developers. Winking_Face

Guess you're right, there are really a lot of complains about MTP devices...
