Close open apps with the back key

It took me a while but now I know the difference between back and home when in an open app.

For what I have learned on other forums, the home button should put the app on pause and the back button should close it.

I tried this with an Samsung android phone and there it works.

But when trying this on Xperia Ion even the back button leaves the app paused instead of closing it.

I do know some apps do not behave so I tried this with preinstalled apps such as the calendar and even the calendar is not closed.

So is this normal behavior on the ion and what other way to close the app then. I know I can se the list of recently opened apps and close it over there but I'd like something easier.

I am on Jelly Bean 4.1.2.

The back button (as home buttom) leave the apps in background

To close apps you have to hold home button and swipe apps.

If you wanty to kill stock processes you have to force closure from android settings
