Changing Bootloader Unlock Allowed: NO to YES, Mt11i Claro Argentina

Hello everyone, I'm Santiago, from Argentina. I bought an Xperia Mt11i (Neo V) smartphone last year from argentinian phone carrier Claro (ex-CTI).

It's my first android phone and as I came to learn a bit about the system, I wanted to unlock my bootloader o I could install custom roms and kernels, as I have been playing with some cutom roms, but I can only access the ones that do not require Bootloader unlocked (i.e., I can't install CyanogenMod, MIUI v5, etc).

Checking in the SERVICE hidden menu, the status in my phone says "Bootloader Unlock Allowed=NO" (so I coudn't follow the official Sony guide to unlocking the bootloader) and I contacted my phone carrier to ask them wether they could do something about it, either by free or paying methods. They replied that bootloader is a device function, not a service provided/modified by them and that I should ask directly to Sony. As there is no Sony mobile branch in Argentina, I came here to post my question in hope that someone may be able to tell me wether something can be done about this.

I should also add that my phone is in fact SIM-locked at the moment, and I have no idea wether this is a limitation for what I'm trying to do or not. Reading throughout the web I encountered several places that said that SIM-Unlocking your phone via NCK code (which I could obtain from my phone carrier) does not, indeed, unlock your bootloader, but I was wondering if it might, at least, change the status to "Unlock Allowed=YES" (this, I read, is sometimes the case).

I am eager to find a solution to this situation, so any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

                            Santiago.

I think I have read somewhere you can do this via ADB, I think that what they did to the locked XPeria Z.

But I suggest you ask on XDA forum, they can help you there.

thanks, I started a thread over there, I would still like to hear from Sony what they have to say about this. I'm hoping someone on their end will reply

there's another thread on this, your carrier and other carriers request this to OEMs, to lock the bootloader, Sony can NOT unlock it, legal reasons, it has to be ok by your carrier. let me see if I can find the  thread.

Re: Bootloader unlock allowed: No... SONY solve it, please!

Provider response:

In a nutshell "The Solution Sony proposses is, for those of you with a code-unlocked terminal, to contact Sony at questions.es@support.sonymobile.com, with your email, emei and unlocking code"

I assume that if our Provider (Movistar Spain, in most cases) tell us to ask sony for this code, is because Movistar have spoken with Sony in order to clarify and coordinate the way this can be done. In this case, I also belive (or I want to) that Sony Centers (for example in Madrid, Spain) is already aware of this statement and if I go to the store, they will fulfill my Bootloader unlocking request, right?

I don't mind take the mobile to the store, this is not a problem if it is the only way to do it. But please, confirm us that Sony Centers and workers are aware of it.

Thanks.

Hello Everyone,

I have confirmed that if you get your SIM unlock code from Movistar, that you can contact our office (+34 902 88 22 50) and they will work with you to make arragements with them to have a technician unlock the bootloader. The bootloader must be unlocked by a technician, it can not be done via PC, etc.

This is something the local office is aware of and will process for you if you meet the above criteria.

well thanks in advance.

If I understand correctly, from what you're saying the locked bl came at request from my phone carrier even when they told me that was not the case? or am I reading something wrong?

that's indeed correct, but check that other thread, as you will find out, your carrier has to contact Sony so they can allow you to unlock your bootloader

I haven't read that.
Thank you so much.
I wil try and obtain the SIM unlock code from my phone carrier and then I'll contact Sony directly to see if they can have a technician unlock it for me.

SIM unlock code is only to unlock the phone so you can use it with other carriers, it Won't grant you access to unlock the bootloader at all.
