Cannot update my Z1

i plug phone into pc follow the prompts and when it starts the preparing phase it loads about 20% and been like that for 24h, uninstalled pc and tried again and am having the same issue.

What are you trying to update android version? Does your PC meet all the system requirements as mentioned on the Sony companion/software download website. They mention all the PC hardware and software requirements there.

i had the same problem ...try using different usb port but turn of the internet while the driver loads after that update your phone.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

First of all make sure that PC Companion and Sony Update Enginge is allowed in your firewall. Also make sure that your antivirus doesn't block the program.

I can't either. Every time I connect my phone to my computer I get a prompt to update my software. I follow the instructions and it doesn't work. There's a "Next" button which is permanently disabled. I don't want to have to spend ages fussing about firewalls and antivirus exceptions on my computer for the sake of my phone. I just want not to be prompted to update my software. Can I do this or do I have to live with this annoying message?

If the next button is disabled it sounds like you haven't ticked a mandatory checkbox to be able to proceed with the update. 

If you still have the same issue I would suggest that you try to reinstall PC Companion.
