Cannot see Wifi 5 GHz SSIDs

Hello,

My phone (model E2306, Android 6.0.1) cannot see any 5 GHz Wifi SSIDs. I have a duel band router which broadcasts both in 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz bandwidth frequencies, with seperate SSIDs for both, but I am only able to see, and thus connect to, the 2.4 GHz SSID. Other devices on my network have no issue seeing and connecting to both the 2.4 and 5 GHz. I've rebooted my phone and router, tried all of the Wireless Channels avalible, stopped the 2.4 from broadcasting, turned the 5 GHz to open security (as opposed to WPA) but I still don't see my 5 GHz SSID.

Thanks

Hi @Chindogu, I am sorry to hear about that. Slightly_frowning_Face

Could you try to see if it's possible to manually connect to the network? To do so, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu (3 dots in the top right) > Add network, enter all the network settins here; once you're done press "SAVE".

If you were not able to connect, could you download WiFi Analyzer or a similar app from the Google Play Store to see if it detects your network?

Let me know how it went!

Those were also a couple of the first things I tried, but to no avail.

WiFi Analyzer doesn't pickup any 5GHz SSIDs, even though I know they're there. Adding a network will save the 5GHz SSID but it still doesn't show up in the avalible networks for connecting to.

Just to make sure, have you tried to see if other 5GHz networks are available for your phone - or is it specifically your network that is invisible?

As I mentioned above, I don't see *any* 5GHz networks.

Sorry if I misunderstood that part, I just wanted to make sure.

In this case I would recommend that you try to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion and see if that helps.

Let me know how it went!

Unless this is a sure fix I don't want to go through the trouble of having to reset my phone, reinstall all my apps, retransfer all my files and reset all my preferences. Guess I'll just live without 5GHz WiFi. Lame.

I can't guarantee that it'll work, but it is the step which I recommend that you try next. I understand that it may be inconvenient for you as a user to go through it, but your device supports 5GHz networks so I'd advice that you try troubleshooting it.

Let me know if you change your mind, I'll gladly assist!
