Cannot restore backup, please help

Hi guys,

My girlfriend's Xperia S was having some performance issues, so after searching for some advice, I found a thread where someone described similar issues(performance problems after ICS update) and was advised to backup and use SUS.

In that thread a Sony support person directed them to http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36355 so I've followed advice from Uliwooly-wooly about backing up using the backup and restore app.

Problem is, now that I've done it, I keep getting an error message every time I try to restore from the .sbf file created.

I feel really bad, I should have done my homework a little better when backing up, but I took it for granted that it would work. Now my girlfriend has lost her contacts and messages, which are the only things that really matter to her.

Is there anything I can do to try and retrieve this data? Phone software version is 4.04 if that is relevant.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions

Many Thanks

Chaz

I've been googling this problem, and have tried a couple of different backup and restore apps to no avail.

The app installs fine, and I can see the .sbf file but it just says Error, could not restore data when I try to restore.

It's like I've used the wrong version of backup and restore for the phone or something.

Would there be any apps that could restore from the file, or something I could use on the computer to at least read it and get the numbers?

Thanks,

Chaz

if you have entered a google account with the phone, the contacts are most probably synced to the account, ,

I thought this, and checked her account, but they don't seem to have synced.

Don't suppose you'd have any ideas on anything else I could try?

Thanks

try to enter the google account on the phone again,  connect to the internet ( wifi or network)

then on the contacts press menu button and tap on filter, tap on google and all contacts, see if the contact were indeed synced.

You could try restoring your backup using the following app and see if it works: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spritemobile.backup. To the best of my knowledge, it supports backups from our software.

The backup app you used is however not intended to work on Android-versions later then 2.1 so there is also a risk that there's a problem with the backup file.
