Cannot Finish Installation Process for Update 4.0.2.A.0.42

Hey all....first time on the site.

Have an Arc (not Arc S).  Running 2.3.4 Gingerbread and 4.0.1.A.0.283 firmware.

Received a notificaiton that an update was available for my Arc (4.0.2.A.0.42) and tried to download via network/wi fi.  Got the update dowloaded to phone, tried to install, phoen shut down, and booted up and provided an error notification in stauts bar stating could not download and prompting me back to the update center download notification screen that I first saw when notified of the update (tried the open air update at least 6 times to see if it was a network glitch etc. but no success)....

Then tried the update from PC Companion (Support Zone), and after connecting my phone it said that my phone was up to date and did not initiate any update.....

I am in Canada (not sure if that matters) and on Rogers 3G Network.

Anyone able to help a Noobie out here?

Try to update with sony ericsson update service..sorry cant provide you the link..i'm online on my phone..

Just take a look at some threads you should get the link..if not then just google it ok..

Thank you for the response Slim.....should have mentioned that after the PC companion attempt, I downloaded Sony Xperia Update Service program.....it scanned phone and said that I had the latest software....

I tried a battery pull on my phone but still have the "4.0.2.a.0.42 could not install" on my notification screen of my phone, with the red exclamation point......

Very strange.

take both SIM and SD cards out and try again with Update Service

you can always manually install the newest firmware

but there isn't much difference between .283 and .42 only couple more preloaded apps
