Can I get the old keyboard functionality back?

I just updated to the latest 12.1.A.1.205 which was offered to me by my Xperia SP just today (in the UK).

**bleep** it, I really wish I hadn't.

First of all the themes and colours are terrible. The SMS messenger window is horrible as all the received texts are displayed as white text on a pale blue background, and none of the (rather limited number of) theme options are any better with various revolting background shades.

Also, all the backgrounds are white/grey, whereas I had got used to having many things with a black background and white text. There's no way I can see to get this back.

What has annoyed me most is that the keyboard has changed dramatically!

There used to be a strip acroos the top of the keyboard which displayed the list of punctuation marks. It always used to appear whenever I wasn't in the middle of entering a word (when typing a word the strip contained all the auto-complete options). Now, the punctuation marks are obtained by holding down some of the keys - e.g letter C for the question mark. The punctuation strip has gone.

Can I get that back?

"If it ain't broke don't fix it!"

Well, the old keyboard was fine. I got used to it and liked it. Now I'm forced to put up with something different for no good reason. Can I revert to the old keyboard somehow?

thanks,

Michael

Have to agree with that - if you were happy with it before why on earth did you change it?

I didn't dream for a minute that the system update would result in a *complete* cosmetic change to the whole thing. Yuk. I'm pretty annoyed. If I'd known I would have left it as it was.

You can go back to .254 with FlashTool, need to backup your data first though. I couldn't get on with the stock keyboard so use Hackers Keyboard which I'm quite happy with, particularly like the arrow keys in landscape as it's hard to position the cursor without.

Sadly I find that most updates, particularly of apps, seem more cosmetic than an improvement in functionality so I don't upgrade anything now unless I'm unhappy with the current stuff.
