Can firmware fix microphone problem?

I'm getting bad quality sound from the microphone, scratchy and hissy - people are saying they can't understand me very well (to be honest the sound quality of incoming calls is pretty poor too, compared to my old s2) and it's also apparent in recordings such as the microphone test. I see a lot of people are having similar issues. My question is whether this can be sorted out by a firmware update or is it an unfixable hardware issue? If it's the former I'll hold out as I like the phone in a lot of ways, but if it's the latter it's going straight back to the shop. Thx.

Yeah my Galaxy S4 had a way better sound quality. I think it's a hardware problem or feature because of the waterproofing.

Its not because of the water proofing. My friends Z1 and my brothers S5 have awesome audio quality

If it's about the same then here : http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Echo-issues-during-phone-call/m-p/659777#U659777

It's more like a hardware problem. Do people that call you can hear echo of their own voice ?

If yes, the best thing to do is to contact xperia care, for repair. At first, I thougt that sending it back to my operator would give me the possibility to have a brand new one without waiting, but since it seems to be on several Z2 phones, it may be better to have it returned, later, but once it's been repaired but Sony.
(some people conplains to have the same issue with 3 different Z2)

I got the same problem, poor quality while speaking, on my end I notice background noice as soon as the other one speaks. The sound levels drops now and then making it impossible to hear the other person. The other person says I am lagging alot when speaking.

This is my second Z2 in 7 days. The second one have same problems.

Also I think I have found the problem, I dont think it is the microphone or speaker of the phone. I actually think it is signal problems. I loose signal alot faster than compared to my old phone ( samsung s3 ). And even when standing still and have full 4G connection, it can suddenly drop and then quickly go to full strength again.

hey me too using xperia z2 the problem comes with the microphone when the phone gets wet it is because the xperia z2 has 3 holes below for the microphone and the water stuck into it if u blow that water away your voice will come as the way it is....

i have tried it and i think it is the problem

Firmware will fix all those issues

I dont think so. The poor quality in the earpiece is clearly bad quality of the speaker. So i guess they have used low end components in the whole phone.
