Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

I feel you. I also wish to go back time and chopped my hand before before I click the purchase button in the website. ShmOnUsony
I agree to this...
I just remembered that before ICS update,
the camera had this focusing issue - something like it does the focus by itself from time to time, even after it had the image at the right focal point where it is very clear. Then it try to focus again.
After ICS update, the issue problem is still there.
I hope Android developers & Sony can correct this.
Thanks in advance.

i have 6.1.B.0.544
Camera does not work
I'm also really disappointed with this. Main two issues in this flagship (not anymore, but nevertheless) is the really really bad camera quality - i cant understand why so much compression - and the keep awake bug sucking battery...
Is there any plan to solve this, Sony?
saludos from Chile.
A lo mejor con un poco de suerte Sony nos sorprende, y nos da el update Jelly Bean y la cámara arreglada.
Maybe with some luck Sony surprises us, and give us the Jelly Bean update and a fix to camera problems.
To that I would call it a MIRACLE, since we have six months waiting for SONY to fix all these problems of the camera and didn't even tell us if they will fix it or not. They are busy launching a new phone every week!
Same here running 6.1.A.2.45.
Focussing is slow and the picture was captured before the focusing system done its job.
Please fix this, Sony's first smartphone can't even focus properly??
I have found a work around. For outdoor mode, original camera seems to be working fine. For indoor mode, I am using Camera360. It takes much better pics than the original camera in indoor mode.
somehow the focus problem that i've mentioned earlier has been gone.
i don't know how it was fixed.
maybe the daily phone restart? (as recommended by the xperia help app)
anyway, i'm happy now ... i hope this problem does not return.
