Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Well you have images... I have a recording... This is the real problemo... but, why don't we just wait until the ICS upgrade... If the upgrade bring a better or even exellent quality, i'd say "Long live Sony". But if the upgrade is just the same as before, i'd say "goodbye Sony"

There is a distinct lack of Sony staff input here. Come on Sony, tell us what's going on! This focus problem is real, and by the looks of it, there are a number of users experiencing it. The camera was the main selling factor for me on this phone, but it's a real let down. If it's hardware then we need to know so we can get our faulty phones replaced, if it's software then we need to know, so we can stop bitching about it here. This thread is very visible via google, and will be having a negative impact on reputation. Someone at Sony man up and tell us what's going on!

I can not risk this being fixed in 3 months with ICS - I have called my phone supplier and this is going back - I am on my last day of my warrenty so I am ok.

They are going to send a replacement (same phone) - I will give this one a try and post/report back - dont hold your breath on getting this fixed quick - Sony I just hope you look, read and implement a solution ASAP - ideally, a reponse to this post will help us and to be honest prospective users in having confidence in your new flagship product.

23 April - this post has had 8300 views - thats about 6000 lost customers, plus word of mouth lost customers. Reputation is one thing you cannot buy and is hard to gain/win, but so easy to lose. In a market which is dominated by Apple and Samsung (HTC are doing rather poor now), Sony needed to produce a really stand out product - they did with the Xperia Range - the S looks great. Shame you cannot use it as a camera.

Customers want a phone which can be used and trusted as a camera - I dont have any faith in my currrent model, and it does not perform how its being advertised - Shame as I love Sony phones, I have had many in the past. If my next one doesnt work, I am going to another brand.

Is this a support forum? Where are the Sony mods on this thread? We're all waiting for answers about this problem. I've now had my phone over 30 days so am unable to return it to store for a refund. If this is a fault with hardware then I would like to get it fixed, if it's going to be fixed with an update then I need to know that. Come on, this thread is a month old now and still no word from Sony.

I'm going to keep bumping this thread, until we get an answer...
