Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

I do read a lot of threads and I help as much as I can, I realized the limitations back with my X10, I like to find ways around things to fix or improve them, but there's only so much you can do, like I said check some info regarding sensor size, lenses, etc and you'll realize the limitations of this and other phones, remember the Xperia Arc, iphone 4S and I think the HTC one x utilize the same camera build by sony. if the hardware was so bad why would they use Dizzy_Face

Hi uliwooly, this is 3rd time you have been (in my view) disrespectful and making personal attack on me by mentioning "troll the thread"

I will have to reply a personal attack on me...

Could you help me with the forum guide which says if you thinking of selling the phone you can not comment on forum?

I still own Xperia S and I do believe if sony staff look at is positively they can come up with fix.. while there is nothing wrong in thinking of selling phones, is there?

Whle none of my comment has been personal attack to anyone specific...

All I have mentioned in my comments is that "we as a customer needs some better responses"

Just being un-responsive will make more people unhappy and not accepting problem will never get a solution (Again this is not for you this is for sony customer service)

I hope you agree with me and move on Slightly_smiling_Face

Let's keep this forum for honest and platform for unbiased feedback & issues together....

@uliwooly, agree with you on sensor size, and hardware limitation... I guess Sony customer care should have such smart response, when I called them few days back, all they kept on saying it is excellent quality and upgrade your phone when the update releases...

Just igore him msiddhpura, for some reason he is trying to wind eveyone on this thread up, I expect it's so that we leave the thread and stop drawing attention to the issue.

maybe you try to consider capturing it right, i mean pressing the camera buton or the didicated camera button and release it after it scan and focuses....coz' mine works so very well,,

Hi.. if your on a tesco 2 year contract, phone up customer services, tell them the problems your having and that its not fit for purpose and that you want either a new handset or a different handset. You cannot get out of your contract but you can change your phone.

If they say no, tell them about this forum, that you have had issues since day once (and have been waiting for SOny to fix it), then quote the act. Then ask to speak to a manager. Do not get stroppy, simply state the facts. - good luck, Phones4u changed mine 3 times - then I sold. - got a N8 until something really good comes out - Xperia with Cybershot...(I will wait till I know it works); N808 - looks great (but currenlty has a few problems so waiting); Sam S3 (issues too); IPhone5 (barrr).
