Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

alright.
I have tried with Xperia S on 2.3, HTC one X with ICS and iPhone 4S, I must say HTC is best amongst these three...
Luis_DR, well one it's delay and second is the update is not in one go, there is no date / suggestive dates for rest of the phones thats what bothers me the most...
I understand it's difficult to communicate dates for initial release, but if they have released update for some of the phones of same model but different SI it's not fair for others just to wait and keep on checking
I thought you were selling your Xperia S, if you tested them and you like them more, why did you purchased the Xperia S, and if you are selling it why are you keep posting? not that you can't just wondering
have you read the developer blog post: from source code to update released ?
unwooly, Thanks for suggestion on Flashing etc, wish it was that simple
It breaks warranty, there is no guarantee that flashing will definately work... no customer support if I brick my phone while flashing...
ullwooly, going back to your earlier suggestion "let's keep this nice and friendly"
it doesn't quite void your warranty, click on that thread and read the warranty section and it won't brick your phone
you can't brick your phone by flashing, if anything goes wrong just start all over, as long as you don't unlock your bootloader you won't damage your phone
Yeah wel you're lucky than
May be I have a faulty instrument....
but look at this from balanced and prospective of normal users without being biased
Buy phone which is supposed to be latest..comes with old OS. Was well known before Xperia S came out.
Wait for upgrades, all they tell you is WAIT lol they don't even have target dates of upgrade cycle. Second Quarter of 2012
Camera is very poor quality, and NO it is not better than 4S or other phones as mentioned in other threads here. Maybe not better but equal or your Xperia camera is faulty
Gets hot frequently and NO other phones doesn't get heated. Mine never gets very hot. HTC OneX gets hot too.
Does any one has any answers to these issues? Return your Xperia for new one.
Every phone has its issues. New S3 has problems like camera pink spot, battery drain, spontaneous screen cracks, screen light bleeding, gallery bug etc..
Iphone has its issues like yellow spots, bad reception, battery drain etc..
OneX has issues like getting very hot, battery drain again, build quality, wifi problems, yellowish screen etc..
These are just a few issues, but here are many more. No phone is perfect.
